The digital, supplier, CRO, and medtech services sectors continued to see a steady flow of leadership changes during the month of May, with companies reinforcing capabilities across clinical strategy, commercialisation, and technology. A cluster of CEO appointments stood out at the top of the list.

So, without further ado, let’s get to the round-up.

Medtech firm brings in experienced CEO. Axithra appointed Lars Kongsback as CEO, bringing more than 25 years of industry leadership as the company moves from technology development into clinical testing of its first hospital-based products. The Ghent University and imec spin-off is developing a platform to measure and monitor drug concentrations in blood, aiming to enable truly individualised treatment. Co-founder Leander Van Neste transitioned into the role of COO as part of the leadership change.

B Braun promotes from within after long-serving CEO retires. At B Braun Medical, Michael Parden stepped in as CEO following the retirement of long-serving chief executive Rob Albert after 42 years with the company. Parden, formerly managing director of B Braun UK, took on responsibility for the Pennsylvania-based infusion therapy and pain management specialist as it entered its next phase.

Two more CEO appointments. Additionally, transatlantic CRDMO Symeres named Henning Steinhagen as CEO in a planned succession, succeeding Guillaume Jetten. He joined from Lario Therapeutics, where he had served as co-founder and CEO, and also held a role as venture partner at Epidarex Capital. And Envirotainer appointed Aymeric Chandavoine as CEO, hiring from Maersk where he had most recently served as executive vice president and president, Europe. The Stockholm-based company is a leader in pharmaceutical cold chain logistics.

Worldwide Clinical Trials builds out therapeutic and regional leadership. Worldwide Clinical Trials strengthened its senior team with a series of appointments:

  • Dr Panteli Theocharous joined as chief therapeutics and clinical strategy officer and president of Europe, bringing more than 35 years of experience in global clinical development, including advanced modalities such as cell and gene therapies.
  • Marcin Ernst was appointed president, internal medicine, arriving from Ora Clinical where he held dual leadership roles spanning clinical development operations and European business leadership.
  • Keya Watkins took on the role of president, oncology, having joined through the acquisition of Catalyst Clinical Research and now leading global oncology strategy.
  • Gijsbert Veerman became VP, early phase oncology, Europe, bringing nearly 30 years of experience, most recently as COO at IQVIA Biotech.

Syngene International strengthens commercial and HR leadership. Syngene International made two senior hires to support its global CDMO/CRO operations. Abhijit Zutshi joined as chief commercial officer after a 25-year career at Biocon, where he led the generics business across both drug substance and drug product divisions. Alongside him, Maninder Kapoor Puri was appointed chief human resources officer, bringing broad experience across biopharma, IT services, and consulting, most recently heading HR at Biocon.

Ardena adds commercial and financial firepower. At Ardena, Henny Zijlstra was named chief commercial officer, drawing on senior leadership experience across the CDMO space, including at Lonza and most recently Adragos. The company also appointed Ben Ash as chief financial officer. He brings experience from both listed and private organisations, including his most recent role as CFO at Essential Pharma.

Visory Health promotes internal leaders to senior roles. Visory Health elevated two internal executives as it continued to expand its presence as a major US prescription discount card provider. Alexandra Robertson stepped into the role of chief growth officer after previously serving as vice president of growth and helping drive expansion across more than 38,000 pharmacies nationwide. Meanwhile, Brittney Tierce became chief technology officer, having been instrumental in building the company’s proprietary platform in her prior role as SVP of technology and security.

Medtech companies reinforce financial and commercial leadership. Across the medtech sector, firms continued to strengthen their leadership teams with a focus on financial oversight and commercial execution.

  • Micron Biomedical, a developer of dissolvable microarray-based drug and vaccine delivery technology designed to replace traditional injections, appointed Elizabeth Holmberg as chief financial officer. She joined from Third Pole Therapeutics, bringing experience in scaling emerging healthcare technologies.
  • NeuroOne, a Minnesota-based medical technology company focused on improving the surgical diagnosis and treatment of neurological disorders, named Chris Volker as chief financial officer on a permanent basis following the retirement of his predecessor. Volker stepped into the role from his position as COO, adding to his previous leadership experience at Abbott, Cardiovascular Systems, and St. Jude Medical.
  • Meanwhile, BrainScope, which develops AI-driven, non-invasive diagnostic tools for brain health, appointed David Wingate as VP sales and commercial operations. He brings experience leading US sales strategy and execution at Accelus.

Digital and clinical trial tech firms expand commercial and operational leadership. Digital health and technology-enabled service providers also made some key hires.

  • ixlayer, a provider of cloud-based platforms delivering end-to-end direct-to-patient healthcare experiences, appointed Helmut Osorio as general manager. He joined from Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, where he led science-based marketing strategy and launch execution for EYLEA HD.
  • At Kivo, a Portland-based provider of unified document and process management systems for life sciences teams, Chris Xistris took on the role of VP of services. He brings more than a decade of experience at Veeva Systems, most recently leading R&D services engagement.
  • ConcertAI, a real-world evidence and AI SaaS company focused on life sciences, named Shawn W Bates as general manager, commercial solutions. He arrived with nearly 30 years of experience in AI and healthcare, most recently serving as chief revenue officer at ProductLife Group.
  • Finally, uMotif, a next-generation, patient-focused clinical trial technology company, appointed James Thatcher as chief commercial officer. He joined from Evinova, where he led business development and go-to-market strategies for digital and AI-native research solutions across pharma, biotech, and CRO clients.

AES Cleanroom Technology strengthens revenue leadership. Finally, AES Cleanroom Technology appointed John Groth as chief revenue officer. He joined from Optima, where he served as vice president of the pharma division and oversaw the company’s largest global business unit, bringing significant experience in scaling supplier operations in life sciences.
