Leadership changes across digital health, diagnostics, clinical trial technology, and life sciences suppliers continued in April, as companies invested in executive, clinical, and commercial expertise to support growth and innovation – in particular, we saw a number of hires and even new positions around the evolution of AI in the space.

Below is our round-up of notable digital and supplier hires from April.

MasterControl names Dave Edwards as CEO. MasterControl, a provider of AI‑enabled quality, manufacturing, and asset management software for life sciences and other regulated industries, appointed Dave Edwards as chief executive officer, promoting a long‑standing member of its leadership team into the top role. Edwards has served as chief revenue officer at the company since 2012; before that, he was COO and VP business development at 3form, a designer and manufacturer of architectural materials.

NADMED appoints James Lee to lead diagnostics expansion. Finnish diagnostics company NADMED named James Lee as CEO. Lee joins with more than 25 years of international pharmaceutical and healthcare leadership experience, including a role shaping the global launch strategy for Ozempic at Novo Nordisk. NADMED has developed the only CE‑marked test capable of measuring vitamin B3‑derived NAD molecules directly from fresh blood.

GermFree selects Carol Houts as CEO. GermFree appointed Carol Houts to the top job, bringing three decades of healthcare and life sciences experience to the supplier. Houts’ career spans clinical development, global regulatory strategy, cGMP operations, quality systems, and commercial leadership, with previous roles at organisations including Pfizer and Stryker Biotech. GermFree advances ATMP development and point‑of‑care manufacturing with modular and mobile CGMP cleanrooms, integrated equipment, and lifecycle services delivered under a single contract.

Axithra installs Lars Kongsbak to guide move into clinical testing. Medtech spin‑off Axithra appointed Lars Kongsbak to step into the CEO role as the company transitions from technology development into clinical testing of its first products in hospital settings. Co‑founder and former CEO Leander Van Neste moves into the role of chief operating officer, where will be tasked with spearheading clinical validation and building the operational and manufacturing foundations required for commercial scale‑up. A spinout from Ghent University and imec, Axithra is developing a platform to rapidly and accurately measure drug concentrations in blood to enable more personalised treatment.

Signant Health strengthens clinical leadership. Signant Health appointed Dr Graham C. Ellis as clinical vice president. A specialist physician and clinical researcher, Dr Ellis brings more than 25 years of experience in diabetes, endocrinology, and metabolic disease, having served as PI across more than 150 international Phase II–IV clinical trials. Signant Health is a Philadelphia‑based clinical trial partner offering site‑based eCOA, EDC, eConsent, RTSM, supply chain management, and data quality analytics.

Commercial leaders join Quibim and Autolomous. Two firms got new chief business officers in April: imaging diagnostics specialist Quibim appointed Itta MacNevin as chief business officer. MacNevin brings extensive experience in building and executing commercial growth strategies across the pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors. And manufacturing ecosystem company Autolomous promoted Alexa Craciunescu, previously VP of product commercialisation, into the CBO role. Quibim focuses on transforming clinical imaging data into insights that support improved patient outcomes, while Autolomous supports life sciences companies in building AI‑enabled manufacturing and supply chains.

Companies add AI‑driven intelligence and analytics functions. Several digital‑first companies expanded their AI‑related capabilities this month, introducing new leadership roles designed to strengthen analytics, intelligence, and decision‑support across R&D and healthcare operations.

  • Valo Health appointed Chris Anagnostopoulos as chief causal AI officer. He joined from QuantumBlack, AI by McKinsey, where he served as tech fellow partner, global director of AI innovation in life sciences and co‑founder of McKinsey’s Scientific AI service line, driving the application of causal machine learning and advanced analytics across biopharma R&D. Valo Health leverages AI‑enabled human causal biology and closed‑loop chemistry platforms to support drug discovery and development.
  • Alloy Therapeutics added a new AI‑enabled function with the appointment of Dr Alexander Titus to lead its newly formed Vigilance Division, focused on enhancing biosecurity preparedness and accelerating the development of therapeutics for emerging biological threats. Titus previously served as the first biotechnology strategy lead at the US Department of Defense and held leadership roles at Avidity Biosciences, Colossal Biosciences, and Google Cloud. Alloy operates as a biotechnology ecosystem company combining AI‑powered platforms with scientific expertise.
  • NuvemRx also launched a new strategic intelligence capability, appointing Charles Hirner as SVP, Mission Control. Mission Control is a new strategic intelligence operation that combines expert teams with advanced analytics to deliver actionable insights to NuvemRx clients. Hirner brings more than 20 years of experience building and scaling pharmacy operations for safety‑net providers, alongside clinical training as a pharmacist and operational expertise across third‑party administration, pharmacy management, and 340B referral capture.

START Center expands oncology research leadership. The START Center for Cancer Research made two senior appointments to support its global early‑phase oncology trial network. Dr Neel Belani joined as clinical investigator, bringing experience as a board‑certified medical oncologist with a focus on thoracic oncology and early‑phase clinical research, while Dr Salwan Al Mutar signed on as director of clinical research. Dr Al Mutar brings extensive experience as a medical oncologist, clinical investigator, and academic leader.
