Vogenx surpasses expectations with $81M IPO
Raleigh, North Carolina-based Vogenx, a clinical-stage biopharma, closed its initial public offering Thursday with $81.3 million raised -- ahead of their previously reported goal of $75 million.
The company, which is developing novel therapeutics for metabolism-associated diseases, sold 6,250,000 shares at $13.00 per share. It will be traded on the Nasdaq under the symbol VOGX. As of Friday, the stock is trading just shy of $15 a share.
The money raised support's the development of mizagliflozin, an orally-administered small molecule drug that reduces insuling secretion, glucose absorption, and gastric inhibitory peptide secretion. It's currently being trialled in the treatment of post-bariatric hypoglycaemia, gastroparesis, and GIP-dependent Cushing's Syndrome, with the PBH use case the furthest along in phase 2b.
Mizagliflozin is licensed from Kissei Pharmaceutical, which retains rights to develop and market the drug in Japan, Korea, and Taiwan.
Vogenx's only other candidate in development is a SGLT1 inhibitor being assessed for weight maintenance after substantial weight loss, but it is still pre-clinical.
This is only the latest in a long line of successful 2026 biotech IPOs. Earlier this week four others entered the Nasdaq: Braveheart Bio, Latigo Biotherapeutics, Attovia Therapeutics, and BlossomHill Therapeutics collectively raised more than $1.2 billion. Vogenx is actually the smallest IPO of the five, the others ranging in value from BlossomHill's $150 million to Braveheart's $382 million. This follows on successful fundings from Scribe and Apnimed in July.
There are currently no more biotech IPOs on the Nasdaq calendar, though there still could be more this year. BioVie spinoff Option Therapeutics filed an S-1 in March for a small IPO, seeking $20 million to repurpose an approved kidney failure drug into a potential treatment for liver disease. Scarring and autoimmune bio BirchBioMed filed an S-1 this week, but it's an unusual IPO: Shares will be sold by existing shareholders and BirchBioMed doesn't plan to raise money on the IPO.
