Dear Readers,

There is an unusual irony in the rush to scale AI. The better the technology becomes at doing things for us, the more important it is that we, as humans, champion our own critical thinking.

While staunch critics of the technology may argue that it is dumbing down society, there is no denying that AI has enormous potential to change how the life sciences industry operates. It can sift through information at a speed no human could match, spot patterns our eyes might miss, and take some of the more repetitive work off our plates.

Its champions claim that, if used well, AI gives people back time that is better spent focusing on things that need human judgement. And that judgement remains critical.

As the industry moves from AI pilots to real-world applications, we need to stay curious about what these systems are doing, and how they are doing it. That means knowing when to trust an output, when to question it, and, perhaps most importantly, when to step in.

Because AI is here to help us do better work. But that doesn’t mean we can take our eye off the ball.
