An online health clinic for men, Numan, has completed a £10m series A funding round to expand business. Sam Shah, the former director of UK government agency NHSX, has joined to lead its medical strategy.

The round was led by Novator, along with Anthemis Exponential, Vostok New Ventures, and Colle Capital.

Launched in February 2019, Numan claims to help men take action with their health and wellbeing. Founded by serial entrepreneur Sokratis Papafloratos, the company provides personalised treatment options for common male health concerns.

Its advisers include pharmacist Sarah Morgan, psychologist Felix Economakis, foundation doctor Ryan Samuels and osteopath and strength coach Doug Tannahill.

Numan will use funds to invest in technology, expand operations, and grow the team, with Sam Shah, former director of digital transformation for NHSX leading the medical strategy.

Shah held the senior role at NHSX, the government agency digitising the UK’s health service, from March to October 2019.

He then joined the UK's Department of International Trade as a clinical and digital adviser.

Novator partner Birgir Már Ragnarsson will also join Numan's board as part of the funding package.

Papafloratos said: “We help men understand their health better through a series of diagnostics and clinician consultations, and offer medical solutions that cover anything from sexual health, to hair loss, smoking cessation and general wellbeing - all via a comprehensive digital health platform.

“The COVID crisis is motivating men to take better care of themselves and we look forward to becoming a holistic health partner for them, backed by a world-class team of investors.”
