Realising the potential of wearable tech

Spire Health, a US-based continuous respiration sensing and high-adherence ambulatory monitoring healthcare company, is poised to revolutionise the wearable tech space for use in clinical studies with its innovative clothing-adhered technology and newly-launched robust research platform.

For Deep Dive: R&D Innovation pharmaphorum sat down with Dr Richard Murray and Phil Golz, respectively chief medical officer and VP of healthcare at Spire Health.

“There are some key challenges when introducing devices into clinical studies, notably usability, adherence, and accuracy,” Golz explains. “If the wearable device you are using in your study is too difficult for patients to use, you can significantly increase the workload for your clinical research coordinators. As the majority of patients with chronic diseases tend to be older, there can be problems associated with the adoption and adherence to newer forms of technology.”
