Clinical Trials

In the rapidly evolving landscape of clinical trials, one company has transformed and redefined the way in which it supports patients, sites, and sponsors.

Inventus provides complete support exclusively for clinical trials. It is the only company to create purpose-built mobile devices supported through global eSIM connectivity and industry-leading Mobile Device Management.

The UK Government has made a clear commitment to prioritising reducing the average set-up time for commercial clinical trials. The latest figures released in April revealed the figure has been reduced to 122 days – down from 169 last year. Steve Sanghera, co-founder and CEO of Inventus, is only too aware of the role technology will have played in achieving this statistic to get trials up and running at the speed patients deserve.

Founded six years ago, Inventus has grown rapidly and is now a global, multi-award-winning business.

Inventus devices and technology solutions have been deployed in 1,000+ clinical trials, are certified in 70+ countries, and can support up to 586 languages and dialects. To date, 550,000 devices have been shipped.

As Sanghera commented:

"I appreciate that we play a small part in supporting a clinical trial – but it is a vital role. I would describe our technology solutions as being akin to the rivets on a plane. These rivets help the plane to take off and successfully land at its destination. Our technology ensures clinical trials launch successfully and remain on track to the end.”

Always thinking Patient, Site, Sponsor

Receiving a request for thousands of mobile phones during the early days of the business shaped the operational course of direction for Inventus. It was an order that begged the question, ‘Who could possibly want so many mobile phones?’

But the answer revealed a pain point at the heart of clinical trials: the reliance on consumer mobiles and technology devices and the impact this has on patients taking part.

Behind every clinical trial is a person – someone living with a serious illness, waiting for a treatment that could change their life. Without patients, there are no trials – and for many of them, participation may represent hope, sometimes even a last option.

Inventus’ tagline is ‘Always thinking Patient, Site, Sponsor’. This means the aim of the devices and technology solutions it provides is to ensure that patients, sites, and sponsors all feel supported, understood, and cared for.

And the order of those words is intentional. At Inventus, the patient comes first. The stress, uncertainty, and emotional weight they carry is something never lost sight of. Everything – operationally and culturally – is designed to reduce burden, build trust, and provide genuine support, so that patients can focus on what matters most.

Inventus and its unique Data Management Service

Inventus Connect and Inventus Control are integral to the Data Management Service provided by Inventus.

Inventus Connect is a Clinical Data Plan Operator (CDPO), delivering seamless connectivity purpose-built for clinical trials. It is a carrier agnostic network, enabling smart in-country connectivity. This means barriers that limit flexibility and efficiency in multi-regional trials are eliminated. The Inventus global eSIM connectivity ensures communication in 150+ countries, enabling eCOA data to be collected consistently and securely across borders. This approach simplifies logistics and ensures reliable, cost-effective data management, freeing research teams to focus on advancing patient care.

Also sitting in the Inventus data management ecosystem is Inventus Control, which includes the only Mobile Device Management (MDM) platform purpose-built for clinical trials, offering full customisation and configuration for both patient and site devices across Windows, iOS, and Android OS. The MDM platform allows the creation and deployment of protocol aligned settings, approved apps, and locked down controls that protect data and create a consistent experience across sites.

Combining Inventus Control and Inventus Connect creates a powerhouse environment for a clinical trial. They provide peace of mind and assurance that a clinical trial is running as planned, ensuring the trial participant (whether patient or site) is able to provide their data on time and securely every time.

Looking to the future

Looking ahead to what the future holds for clinical trials, it is one that will mirror the ethos of Inventus: patient first.

The future patient journey is likely to involve a single connected ecosystem that quietly supports participation in the background. A patient may receive a preconfigured device already connected to the study, translated into their preferred language and integrated with telehealth consultations, symptom reporting, medication reminders, and passive data collection. The objective is not to surround patients with more technology, but to remove friction from participation entirely.

For clinical sites, integration will become equally important. Sites cannot continue operating across multiple disconnected systems while managing increasing protocol complexity and staffing pressures. The next generation of infrastructure must streamline workflows, centralise oversight, and reduce manual administrative effort.

For sponsors and CROs, simplicity will also become a strategic advantage. Future trial models will require globally scalable infrastructure that delivers consistent deployment, real-time visibility, and operational resilience without fragmenting oversight between vendors or platforms. It is likely there will be more intelligent monitoring of patient engagement, proactive identification of connectivity or compliance risks, and increasingly personalised support models designed to improve retention and continuity throughout studies.

Organisations that succeed in the future will be those that create ecosystems where technology becomes almost invisible within the clinical trial experience.

It’s a future Inventus is ready for.
