Sven Schaffer and Nicole Raleigh interview at ESMO

The European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2024 meeting was a well-attended affair at the sprawling Fira Gran Via centre in Barcelona.

Amongst the excited hustle and bustle of new data and oncological progress, pharmaphorum web editor Nicole Raleigh sat down with Sven Schaffer, senior director of medical affairs Europe at Illumina, to discuss how a simple blood draw can transform clinical practice in oncology.

From molecular profiling of tumours, crucial for optimising cancer treatment in clinical practice, to circulating tumour DNA (ctDNA) – an innovative approach on the cusp of becoming standard practice in managing patients with advanced cancer – Schaffer guides us through recent significant steps forward in precision oncology, as well as discussing what Illumina and its external collaborators and internal experts have been sharing at the congress.
