Wirthumer-Hoche elected as chair of EMA management board

The European Medicines Agency has elected Christa Wirthumer-Hoche as chair of its management board.
Dr Wirthumer-Hoche is head of the Austrian Medicines and Medical Devices Agency, a post she has held since October 2013.
Wirthumer-Hoche, who holds a doctorate from the Technical University of Vienna and a diploma in chemistry and biochemistry,was previously vice-chair of the board.
She has been a member of the EMA's board since 2013 and succeeds the previous chair Sir Kent Woods, who stepped down in December.
The management board sets the EMA's budget, approves the annual work programme and ensures the agency works cooperates with other regulators across the EU and beyond.
