World Without Disease white paper feature image

In a new white paper from the World Without Disease initiative, a 2024 update is provided of the current endeavours and developments that have occurred since inaugural discussions last year. A World Without Disease aims to progress towards a global landscape free from disease, through various strategies and innovations that look to preventative methods and early diagnosis and screening as means by which to ameliorate the current state of affairs in human health and disease.

Key areas of focus at this year’s closed-doors discussion, which took place in Berlin on the eve of the 2024 Frontiers Health conference, included:

  1. Diagnostics and screening: Efforts to increase early screening for diseases like Type 1 diabetes and head and neck cancer through public awareness campaigns and at-home testing solutions.
  2. Immune health and disease prevention: Developments in preventing autoimmune diseases in infants, including supplements to prevent food allergies and emollients to reduce atopic dermatitis.
  3. Obesity and metabolic health: The transformative impact of GLP-1 weight loss drugs on obesity treatment, but the need to balance treatment with prevention.
  4. Mental health: Addressing the rising rates of mental health issues through technology and digital communities.
  5. Overall trends and next steps: Building a funding ecosystem for disease prevention, leveraging data for early action, and focusing on implementation science to make interventions effective.

The World Without Disease 2024 white paper also highlights the contributions of various experts and organisations involved in the initiative and outlines the next steps for continuing progress.
