Dr Joseph Laudano has been appointed Vice President, Medical Affairs Strategy, for Medmeme, which is home to the world’s most comprehensive, continuously updated and integrated online repository of disseminated medical & scientific information.

In his new role, Dr Laudano will be responsible for the development of Medical Affairs strategies in support of Medmeme’s overall goals and objectives. In addition, he will work with the leadership team to create new processes and applications which will maximize the utility of Medmeme’s massive scientific database.

Dr Laudano, who has more than 30 years’ experience in the pharma industry, was previously with Alliqua Biomedical, where he was Vice President of Medical Affairs. In that role, he was responsible for all Medical Affairs activities including post-marketing clinical trials, publication planning and execution, medical and scientific inquiries, medical review of promotional materials and the development of medical and scientific databases.

Other key positions that Dr Laudano has held in the past include four years as Senior Director of Medical Affairs at Forest Research Institute and 20 years at Roche Laboratories in Medical Affairs and Marketing in various positions. He has extensive experience in several different therapeutic areas, including infectious diseases, dermatology and oncology, and has authored numerous publications and scientific posters.

Mahesh Naithani, who founded Medmeme more than a decade ago, said: “Medmeme has been going from strength to strength since its inception and now boasts unrivalled access to a wealth of scientific data. Joe, with his vast medical affairs experience, will play a vital role in helping us communicate the true value of this data to our customers and in identifying further ways in which we can expand and enhance our unique offering.”

Commenting on his new position, Dr. Laudano added: “Whether working in Scientific Communications, Medical Information or as a Medical Liaison, I’ve always felt that Medical Affairs professionals are at the epicentre of data dissemination in the pharmaceutical industry. We are the backbone which provides the path for transition of a compound from discovery and clinical development into the hands of clinicians through meaningful distillation of scientific data, ultimately helping patients.

“The Medical Affairs function is in the process of evolving from a traditional support role (Medical Affairs 1.0) into a more robust, strategic organisation for data generation and dissemination (Medical Affairs 2.0); what I like to playfully call the “strategification” of Medical Affairs. Medmeme’s cutting edge suite of analytical applications is the perfect instrument to help companies drive this transition and I am thrilled to be part of this evolution in the industry.”
