Digital healthcare firm LIVI has signed new agreements with the NHS that will open up access to its GP consultation app to nearly two million more patients in the midlands and southeast England.

LIVI said the move means some 1.85 million patients in Birmingham, Shropshire, Northamptonshire, and parts of the southeast, as well as regions of Surrey that were not previously covered, will be able to consult UK-trained GPs via its mobile app whenever they need medical advice.

At a LIVI appointment, patients speak to an NHS GP, with the patient able to access medical advice, referrals and prescriptions. They do not need to de-register from their usual GP surgery.

Asimah Hanif, lead GP at LIVI, said: “Our aim first and foremost is to partner with NHS services to deliver an improved, more flexible service for patients which cuts waiting times at the same time as driving up the quality of GP consultations.

“I am proud we are bringing this service to even more patients, in even more parts of the country, and in the process supporting local NHS GPs to deliver care in a more flexible and responsive way.”

The company says that 96% of patients that LIVI can treat by video report that their cases have been fully resolved. Where symptoms require a physical examination, the LIVI GP will refer patients on to the relevant specialists.

Luke Buhl-Nielsen, UK country manager, LIVI, which is the UK arm of the European digital healthcare provider, KRY, said, “LIVI’s mission is to improve access to primary care for every patient, and we do so in a way that significantly relieves pressure on GP surgeries.

“Our first partnership in northwest Surrey highlighted within the first six months the positive impact that LIVI can have, offering GPs greater workplace flexibility, decreasing attendance at A&E or urgent care centres, while delivering excellent care for every patient. We’re excited to see the future impact of our new partnerships for both patients and care providers.”

LIVI is collaborating with federations including Our Health PartnershipNorthampton General Practice Alliance, and Alliance for Better Care, and builds on previous work with the NICS GP Federation in northwest Surrey.
