Novartis, Malaria No More launch global digital campaign
Novartis and Malaria No More have launched a new global digital fundraising campaign to help eliminate malaria deaths.
Novartis will financially support the campaign, called Power of One, and will also donate up to three million Coartem Dispersible treatments to match antimalarials funded by the public. Every dollar donated to the campaign will buy and deliver a treatment to a child diagnosed with malaria.
Power of One will harness social, mobile and e-commerce technologies and enables the public to purchase, and then track the journey of, a treatment.
“I am proud of the significant and longstanding commitment Novartis has to the fight against malaria. For all our progress though, there’s still more work to do. We need more help to close the treatment gap and Power of One offers everyone a chance to engage and make a difference for children suffering from malaria.”
Joseph Jimenez, CEO of Novartis.
Malaria is a preventable and treatable disease; however it’s been estimated that 300 million additional treatments will be needed to treat malaria patients across Africa between now and the end of 2015.
The Novartis Malaria Initiative is one of the largest access-to-medicine programs in the healthcare industry. To date, the pharma company has delivered 200 million pediatric antimalarial treatments without profit to malaria-endemic countries since 2009.
