J&J, Novartis and Roche top strategist’s list of innovators

News

Pharma strategy consultants IDEA Pharma have put Johnson & Johnson, Novartis and Roche in the top three of their list of ten companies that have been most successful at developing and commercialising new medicines.

The index ranked the performance of 30 pharmaceutical firms between the years 2008 and 2013. In addition to conversion rates for new molecules, the analysis included factors such as speed to market and research and development strategies.

"Some of the companies which talk constantly of 'innovation' are surprisingly underwhelming at bringing it to market, but on the flip side there are others - quietly - doing it exceptionally well and we want to applaud them.

"Productive innovation measures what matters - the great news is that it matters not just to pharma, but to all of us."

Mike Rea, chief executive, IDEA Pharma.
