Where are the pharma voices in US politics?

Patients
pharmaphorum podcast episode 112

Super Tuesday is coming up in the United States, a day when a number of primary elections occur. Not something we’d normally cover at pharmaphorum, but one Congressional hopeful, vying for Democrat Adam Schiff’s open seat, is using the opportunity to start a conversation about the lack of Congressional representation from people with direct life sciences experience.

In today’s episode of the pharmaphorum podcast, editor in chief Jonah Comstock welcomes Jirair Ratevosian, a candidate for California’s 30th District with a doctorate in public health and experience leading infectious disease-fighting efforts for the Biden administration.

Jonah and Jirair discuss some of the many pharma-related issues Congress deals with on a regular basis and why the legislature might benefit from some more insider perspectives. They also talk more broadly about some of the major public health threats facing the US and world and how the country should be preparing to approach them.

Finally, they talk a little bit about Ratevosian’s current contentious and colourful race for the House and he makes his case to represent California’s 30th.
