Brit arrested in China amid GSK probe

News

Amid the bribery allegations against drugmaker GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) in China, Peter Humphrey and his wife, Yu Yingzeng, were detained by police in Shanghai earlier this year. It was announced today that Humphrey has been arrested suggesting that the police believe they have enough evidence for a case to be brought to trial.

It was not confirmed whether the arrest was directly related to the investigation of GSK.

"We can confirm the arrest of a British national, Peter Humphrey, in Shanghai on Monday the 19th of August. We are currently providing consular assistance."
Hannah Oussedik, British Embassy spokeswoman by phone to Reuters.

According to a statement issued by a member of Humphrey's family, Yu had also been arrested.
