Southampton, September 28, 2017 – UK-based international healthcare communications and education agency, Makara Health, has announced a further expansion of its team this month with the appointment of Helena Wright as Associate Director Client Relations and Gina Dootson as Senior Medical Writer.

Helena Wright and Gina Dotson

Helena joins from Havas Life Medicom where she held the position of Associate Director in the PR & Communications team, working across a variety of pharmaceutical clients. She brings over a decade of experience in healthcare communications, including seven years in-house at GSK where she worked on vaccines, respiratory and corporate responsibility communications, and five years in-house at Alliance Healthcare UK, managing pharmacy trade PR and internal communications.

Boasting a strong background in scientific research within the pharmaceutical industry, Gina also brings over 8 years medical writing experience to Makara. She joins the Makara team after three years spent as an independent freelancer. This followed a five-year stint at medical communications agency, Transart, where she headed up the writing of global educational and learning programmes for the likes of Shire, Takeda and Allergan.

Commenting on the new appointments, Louise Sharp, Makara Health Founder & Managing Director said: “I am delighted to welcome Helena and Gina to the team. The Makara agency model is quite unique, comprising a senior-level team of communications experts, many of whom work for us on an Associate contractor basis. This offers them the flexibility that they desire and guarantees our clients a high-level service offering, with dedicated senior practitioners on every account. The growth of our business and the great new talent that we are attracting is evidence that the model is working.”

Helena said: “Joining Makara is really exciting; the agency really appealed to me as it has a variety of small and large accounts, interesting and challenging projects, and it is fully set-up to support remote working. Being part of a senior team means there is a support network of like-minded people to bounce ideas off and sense check details with. The agency is delivering great results to some very happy clients, and I am looking forward to contributing to that success.”

Gina said: “Having been a freelance medical writer for three years, the thing I missed the most was the support of a team. Being at Makara means I can retain my flexible working pattern, with the benefit of a supportive network around me. I look forward to working in new ways, in new therapy areas and on a variety of projects as part of a committed and dedicated team.”
